How a Tuscan wine tour works
A Tuscany wine tour with Rocca d'Italia is a private day at one or two estates, with a chauffeur, for your group only. The Chianti Classico and Bolgheri days leave from Florence, Siena or your hotel; the Brunello and Vino Nobile days, further south, leave from Siena. Each day runs about seven hours, with the tasting at the centre and lunch on most days.
Tuscany is not one wine region but four, and each is its own day. Chianti Classico lies between Florence and Siena. Brunello is the wine of Montalcino, south of Siena. Vino Nobile belongs to Montepulciano, on the next hill to the east. Bolgheri is on the coast, with a different light and different grapes. A tour that tries to cover them all in a day spends it in the car.
So we keep each day to one district and one or two estates. You are collected at your door, driven to the estate, and you taste with the people who make the wine: the cellar, the vineyards, the wines poured in order. On most days lunch follows nearby, without hurry, before the drive back.
If you are staying in Florence, the natural wine tours are Chianti Classico, a little over an hour away, or Bolgheri, a longer drive for a full day on the coast. From Siena all four open up. Tell us your dates, where you are staying and the size of your group, and the proposal with the estimate arrives within about 48 hours.
Every day is private: the car, the chauffeur and the tasting are for your group only, from two guests to larger families and companies. Nobody joins on the way, and the schedule bends to you, not to a coach timetable.

ExploreThe four wine districts
Four districts, four wines, four days. Here is what sets each one apart, and the estates where our days stop.

The wooded hills between Florence and Siena, and the black rooster on every bottle. Our Chianti days stop at Castello di Brolio, the Ricasoli estate near Gaiole, and on the two-estate day also at Castello di Radda. The easiest wine tour from Florence.
A fortified hill town south of Siena and its wine, Brunello di Montalcino, pure Sangiovese aged for years before release. Our days taste at Casanova di Neri, or at Casanova di Neri and Col di Lamo to compare two faces of the same denomination. They leave from Siena.
A Renaissance town on a narrow ridge, with cellars cut beneath its palaces. Vino Nobile is the wine; Boscarelli, a family estate a few kilometres south-east of the town, is where our day stops before time in Montepulciano itself. It leaves from Siena.
The Tuscan coast, the cypress avenue to Bolgheri, and reds built on Bordeaux grapes. Our day stops at Petra, in the hills of Suvereto, and continues to Bolgheri. It leaves from Florence, Siena or your hotel, and it is a full day.
The two departure points. Florence sits north of Chianti Classico, Siena at its southern edge, an hour or less from Montalcino and Montepulciano. If you are staying in a villa in the countryside, we collect you there.

Questions about Tuscany wine tours
What is the best wine tour from Florence?
For most guests, Chianti Classico: the vineyards start about half an hour south of the city, and Castello di Brolio is a little over an hour away. Bolgheri is also possible from Florence, as a longer day on the coast. Brunello and Vino Nobile are better from Siena.
Can I visit Montalcino and Montepulciano on a wine tour from Florence?
They are close to two hours from Florence each way, which leaves little time for the tasting. Our Brunello and Vino Nobile days leave from Siena; from Florence we suggest Chianti Classico or Bolgheri.
Are these group tours?
No. Every day is private: the car, the chauffeur and the tasting are for your group only.
How many wineries do you visit in a day?
One or two. With two estates the day is already full; a third means losing lunch and rushing every tasting.
Which Tuscan wine region should I choose?
Chianti Classico for the classic Tuscan landscape and the easiest day from Florence. Montalcino for Brunello, Tuscany's most celebrated long-lived red. Montepulciano for Vino Nobile and a beautiful Renaissance town. Bolgheri for the coast and its Bordeaux-style reds.
Can I do a Tuscany wine tour from Rome?
Our days start in Florence, Siena or your hotel in Tuscany, not in Rome. Southern Tuscany is around two hours from Rome by car, so if you are based in Rome, write to us and we will build a day or two around where you are staying.
How much does a private Tuscany wine tour cost?
It depends on the date, the estates and the number of guests, so we do not publish a fixed price. Send a request and the proposal with the estimate arrives within about 48 hours.
